Ancient City of Sigiriya

In the Central Province of Sri Lanka, the Ancient City of Sigiriya in the northern Matale District is not far from the town of Dambulla. Built by King Kassapa in 477 CE (common era), construction was completed sometime in 495 CE. Today, it stands as one of Sri Lanka’s eight impressive UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is home to one of the world’s best-preserved examples of urban planning.
