The Andes Mountains extend from Venezuela through Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile and they’re the source of the mighty Amazon River that runs through South America. The Andes are the source of some of the most abundant mineral deposits in the world, including the Yanacocha mine in Peru. Chile and Peru also produce almost half of the world’s mined copper. All the different types of landscapes that can be found in the Andes Mountains, such as volcanoes, grasslands, lakes, glaciers, deserts, and cloud forests. For the adventurous, all manner of outdoor activities is available, from white water rafting to hiking, and horseback riding to skiing.
