Australia’s love of barbecue stems from its outdoor culture and warm weather, especially in the summer months. Aussies love to do everything outside, especially barbecuing with family and friends in the backyard or on the balcony, at the beach, or in the park. It’s a huge part of the Australian way of life and they relish any and every chance to fire up the barbie. For the most part, Australian barbecue is what is referred to as ‘grilling’ in other countries. This form of barbecue generally involves direct heat under the food with various foods cooked quickly using gas or charcoal. A typical Aussie barbecue can be anything from a simple sausage sizzle in white bread with the ubiquitous tomato sauce, to more elaborate affairs involving steak, lamb, seafood, and salads.
