High atop Lantau Island, in Hong Kong, sits the Tina Tan Buddha. Constructed in 1993, this statue of Buddha serves as a major center for Buddhism in Hong Kong as well as being a popular attraction. The sculpture was created to symbolize the connection between nature and man and is one of the five giant Buddha statues in China. One interesting thing to note about this statue is that Buddha is facing north while all other great Buddha statues face south.
