In the Andes Mountains in Peru, the Cordillera Blanca, or “The White Mountain Range” is the most extensive tropical ice-covered mountain range in the world and has the largest concentration of ice in Peru. In the Cordillera Blanca, you’ll find Huascaran, the highest tropical mountain, and Alpamayo, regarded as the world’s most beautiful mountain. Snowmelt from the Cordillera Blanca provides part of northern Peru with its year-round water supply, while 5% of Peru’s power comes from a hydroelectrical plant located in the Santa River valley.
