Desert-adapted elephants

In Namibia, desert-adapted elephants can be found in the Skeleton Coast National Park. In this arid and wild Kunene region, elephant families roam the river beds alongside black rhinos, zebras, and giraffes. In the desert, where all plants are precious, these elephants take care not to damage trees and bushes. Namibia’s desert elephants are able to survive for days without water, have smaller bodies and longer legs than elephants found on savannahs, and much larger feet to give them traction in the sandy terrain.
