The “Mano del Desierto,” or Hand of the Desert, is a 36-foot-high sculpture in Chile located in the Antofagasta Region in the Atacama Desert. It was created by famous Chilean sculptor Mario Irarrazabal in the 1980s. It was erected to symbolize how small, vulnerable, and helpless humans are. Strange as they may seem, the sculptor’s works are commended all over the world because of their uniqueness and the emotion they convey.
