Huacachina is a tiny desert haven located just west of the city of Ica in southwestern Peru. This little village surrounds a body of green waters called Huacachina Lagoon. Framed by palm trees, the water and mud from the area are said to be therapeutic. A stroll around the shore of the lagoon will lead you to some bars and clubs and there are also some dune buggies aka beach buggies scattered around the sand dunes. The lagoon was quite a hit to the people of Lima up until the 1950s but as the years passed, it had become more or less abandoned. In the 1990s, this tiny village caught the attention of visionary people and businessmen and they decided to recreate it and it’s now a tourism hot spot in Peru.
