Machu Picchu is the site of an ancient Inca city located in southern Peru in the Andes Mountains. This UNESCO World Heritage site is often referred to as “The Lost City of the Incas” and sits at an elevation of 8,000 feet, 1,000 feet above the Urubamba river. The citadel was built in the 15th century, believed to be a religious site for Incan leaders but was abandoned a century later, at the time of the Spanish conquest. To visit this amazing site, you must have a ticket which is available online in advance. Machu Picchu tickets are not sold at the entrance gate and are limited to 2500 per day. During peak times of the year, tickets can sell out days in advance.
