Salt Lake City, Utah, is a booming metropolis that is set against the stunning backdrop of the Wasatch and Oquirrh mountain ranges. Dating back to 1847, the city has a long and fascinating history. The city was originally called the Great Salt Lake City for its close proximity to the Great Salt Lake. In prehistoric times, Salt Lake City actually sat on the shoreline of Lake Bonneville. Moving through downtown, you’ll probably notice the abnormally wide streets. When the Mormon pioneer settlers were laying out their plan for the city, they built the roads wide enough to accommodate their oxcarts to make a U-turn. While you probably won’t see any oxcarts in the city today, you will find plenty of bars, restaurants, and museums to occupy your time.
