San Juan Puerto Rico is a very popular cruise port with some cruises embarking on Southern Caribbean itineraries while other cruises will stop in San Juan for the day. For the one-day visitors, Puerto Rico offers a wide variety of cruise excursions. If you plan to visit Old San Juan, popular attractions include El Morro Fort, the Quincentennial Square, San Jose Church, San Juan Cathedral, Cristo Chapel, and La Fortaleza. If you don’t mind venturing out from the San Juan area, you can hike the trails of the El Yunque, located in Luquillo, the only tropical forest in the United States. If a beach is more your speed, visit nearby Condado and Isla Verde beaches, located 10 minutes from the pier. If you’re hungry and want something other than the ship’s buffet, sample local dishes like Lechon Asado, mofongo, sancocho, and tostones. If you’re a rum drinker, visit Casa Bacardi where you can tour the plant, sample a rum cocktail, and learn about Bacardi’s history in their museum.
