One of the most popular attractions in San Diego also holds a lot of historical significance. The USS Midway was the longest-serving aircraft carrier of the twentieth century. Built in 1945, the USS Midway missed WWII by eight days when it was commissioned on September 10th. The ship played an integral role in the cold war before she was decommissioned on April 11, 1992, in San Diego. Located at the Navy Pier, the USS Midway Museum is a massive 972 feet in length and weighs approximately 74,000 tons.
